“Cremulator” is the first stage adaptation of Sasha Filipenko’s novel, which is drawn from the interrogation records of the director of the Soviet Union’s first crematorium.

Its hero, Pyotr Nesterenko, is a White Army pilot who, after long years of émigré wandering in the early twentieth century, cuts a deal with the Soviets and comes home.

It is a story about how truth is forged and chosen, then burned and scrubbed from the memory of several generations; about emigration and the last century’s war; about Vera, and about a great love that counts for nothing when its most devoted spectator is a tyrant.
